Mojo Monday 256

Hi folks,

Well, today is our eldest cat's birthday - he is six  years old today and, being the crazy cat lady that I am, I made him a birthday card to go with is present.

I used this week's Mojo Monday sketch

and made a wee square card for him

card details:

  • finished size: 4.25 x 4.25 inches, black card stock base (I know - I've rediscovered my love of black cardstock lately. I just think it makes the patterned paper pop)
  • patterned papers: My Mind's Eye Lime Twist "Out of the Blue"
  • stamps: Verve "Small Phrases" (happy birthday), Studio G (meow), Simply Betty Emo London's companion cat (I'm linking up to the digi in the store as I can't find the rubber version which I have - it may not be available any longer). Coloured the cat with PrismaColor pencils (black and grey so he would look like our Packet)
  • buttons: Basic Grey Curio
  • Spellbinders Labels Four

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you are having a fabulous week!

5th Anniversary Verve Release

Hi folks,

well, it's been an exciting month of August for those of us who are big fans of Verve Stamps (you KNOW I am).

They have been celebrating their 5th anniversary all month and there have been oodles of challenges and previews of the new release (boy is it BIG release).

I was lucky enough to be one of the random winners participating in the release party! Woo hoo! A $25 gift certificate to use in the store!

I could not help myself - as usual Julee had a great deal on the big bundles. 20% off the entire set of stamps from the release and 20% off the entire die cut release. Factor in my $25 gift code and that works out to almost 30% off the entire release. Oh yeah baby....I did it. I bought the entire release. I think I MAY have to impose another "no crafty purchases" moratorium for a couple of months. Well, AFTER I check my current Verve inventory against the big anniversary sale to see if there are any more must-haves!

If you are interested in checking out the beautiful stamps and dies - just follow the links in this post!

Mojo Monday 255

Hi folks!

As you may have noticed, there have been a LOT of card posts this week using my Verve goodies. What's up with that, you say? Well, Verve is celebrating their 5th anniversary with a card carnival. Grand prize winner wins the entire August Anniversary release! Oh my Verve-y goodness! So you know I HAVE to play along as much as possible.

So, here is this week's Mojo Monday Sketch

and here is my card:

card details:

  • finished size: 4.25 x 5.5 inches, black cardstock base, red cardstock accents
  • patterned papers: Bo Bunny "Enchanted"
  • stamps: Verve "Joyful Blooms"
  • Stampin' Up gems from my stash
  • EK Success Border punch
  • Spellbinders Labels One
additional challenges for this card:
I'm really hoping I can squeeze in more time to play with my Verve goodies before the card carnival deadline but I'm not sure if I my schedule. After work today I am getting together with a friend from high school who I haven't seen since our first year of university - 25 years ago! We are going to attend the "Women's Fine Wining" evening being put on by the Kanata Chamber of Commerce. I'm excited to see my friend to catch up on all that has happened in the last 25 years and to hopefully have a wonderful girls night out. Then it's back to work tomorrow....so, I might not find any more time to play. But fingers crossed....I might!

Viva La Verve August Week 3 - Card 2

Hi folks

Back again with my second card for the Viva La Verve Week 3 challenge - again, splitting up the two cards into two separate posts because of the card carnival rules

Here is the week 3 sketch:

And here is my second card using this sketch

I just switched out the papers that I was using, along with the stamps. Again, this card might make it into the bigger project for which I am doing all of the black/white/red cards - but maybe not as I have quite a few birthday cards coming up in the next few weeks so this one might get given away for one of those birthdays.

card details:
  • finished size: 4.25 x 5.5 inches, black card stock base, red card stock accents
  • patterned papers: Bo Bunny "Enchanted"
  • stamps: Verve "Small Celebrations" (10% off during the August anniverary sale)
  • Stampin' Up gems from my stash
Thanks for stopping by!

Viva La Verve August 2012 Week 3 - Card 1

Here is the week 3 sketch:

And here is one of my cards (I'll post the second one in a second post because of the card carnival rules)

If you have seen my two previous card posts for Viva La Verve, you will recognize the papers. I'm sticking to my goal of doing the full month of sketches using the same paper pack (so the cards can be part of a bigger project I'm planning).

Anni-Verve-sary ABC challenge

Hi folks,

back with the 5th and final challenge for the Anni-Verve-sary challenges from Verve Stamps.

hmmmm...what to make? what to make? I thought of doing a tag. I thought of doing a bookmark. I thought of doing a gift box. And then I spied my only Hallowe'en set of Verve stamps! And so I made this (or should I say, altered this)

A little gift tin for Hallowe'en treats! Of course, since there aren't any Hallowe'en candy in the stores yet I just filled it with orange tissue paper so you could see what it would look like if it WAS filled.

project details:

  • clear gift tin from Wal-Mart
  • patterned papers: Recollections Midnight Magic
  • stamps: Verve "Boo To You" - I paper pieced the darling little pumpkin so that the lines on the tag I used would not be visible (if I coloured it with my Copics). The sentiment is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black. (the stamp set is 10% off during the August Anniversary sale)
additional challenges for this project:

Thanks for stopping by - and I hope I'm not causing any panic about Hallowe'en coming soon with my little project!

Anni-Verve-sary Anniversary Challenge

Hi folks,

continuing with my cards for the Anni-Verve-sary challenges from Verve. The 2nd challenge is to create an anniversary card with wood or silver elements - fitting since this is Verve's 5th anniversary.

I chose to go with wood - my sweetie is a wood-worker and I have been known to raid his supply of wood veneers for my cards. As a matter of fact, I did just that for THIS card.

card details:

  • finished size: 5.5 x 5.5 inches, textured brown Bazzill cardstock for the base, white cardstock for layers.
  • patterned papers: Basic Grey "Bittersweet". I thought the light brown in the striped paper was a perfect match for the wood veneer I "borrowed" from my sweetie's woodshop. In fact the stripes worked out well because of the grain the veneer as well.
  • stamps: Verve "Love Story", "Love Notes" (both sets are 20% off during the August Anniversary sale)
  • Spellbinders petite circles and scalloped squares
  • layout: Mojo Monday 247

Once again, I am entering this card in the Verve Card Carnival for a chance to win the entire release! I get all weak-kneed just thinking about the possibility!

Thanks for stopping by!

Anni-Verve-sary CAS challenge

Hi folks,

This is my last post for tonight - back with another card for the Anni-Verve-sary challenge from Verve Stamps. This is for the 4th challenge which was to create a clean and simple card.

I decided to use the CAS183 sketch from Splitcoaststampers for my layout. I have to say - I REALLY like it and will probably save this sketch for more cards!

card details:
  • finished size: 4.25 x 5.5 inches, black cardstock base
  • patterned papers: Bo Bunny "Enchanted"
  • stamps: Verve "Wordy Birds" (20% off during the August anniversary sale) and the "Elegant Flower" Plain Jane (40% off during the August anniversary sale)
  • CTMH Black waxy flax, Stampin' Up gems from my stash
  • Martha Stewart border punch
additional challenges for this card:

Once again, I am entering this card in the Verve Card Carnival for a chance to win the entire release! That would just be so AMAZING!! I think I would have heart palpitations if I were to win ANYTHING from this release. Seriously go to the Verve Blog to check out all the previews. You won't be disappointed.

I still have two of the anni-Verve-sary challenges to complete and am hoping that everything cooperates tomorrow and I get to leave work on time so I can get them done! Plus a few extra for the card carnival....fingers crossed!

Anni-Verve-sary Sketch Challenge

Hi folks,

Anni-Verve-sary Color Challenge and August SFYTT

Hi folks,

if you are a fan of Verve Stamps then you know that right now they are celebrating their 5th anniversary with a bunch of challenges to celebrate their huge 5th anniversary release.

The first challenge is a colour challenge to use green + pinks + brown (plus neutrals).

I combined that colour challenge with the August SFYTT (shown below)

and came up with this birthday card:

Viva La Verve August 2012 Week 1

Hi folks!

Well, I am going to try to stay on top of this month's Viva La Verve challenges. This and the next post will be of my cards for the Week 1 and Week 2 sketch challenges.

This is going to be a busy month of Verve challenge postings as August in the "Anni-Verve-sary" month and, in the monthly newsletter, there was a heads up regarding a series of challenges that begins on August 13. You know I am going to try to play along with all of them as anyone who does play along with all of the challenges is entered to win the entire August anniversary release! And it is a whopper worth over $300 in new Verve! Be still my heart!

Anyways, back to the cards.

Here is the sketch for the August Week 1 Viva La Verve Challenge over on SCS.

and here are my two cards:

I decided that for the August Viva La Verve challenges, I am once again going to try to stick to using one paper collection for all the cards. I have been wanting to do a set of black and white cards for a while now (to be included with another project if I ever get around to starting/finishing it) and figured this is as good a time as any to get started. So, get used to seeing these "Enchanted" papers from Bo Bunny for the next month. They'll be showing up in at least four posts!

card details:

  • finished size: 5.5 x 5.5 inches, black card stock base, red card stock accents
  • patterned papers: Bo Bunny "Enchanted"
  • stamps: Verve "Kind Words" (20% off until end of August because of the Anni-Verve-sary sale), flowers stamped in CTMH Hollyhock, sentiments in Memento Tuxedo Black
  • grey and red ribbons from my stash, half-back pearls also from my stash

Playing around with Shrinky Dinks

Hi folks,

well today I played around in my craft room with Shrinky Dinks. I guess I had a somewhat deprived childhood growing up on the coast of Newfoundland as I never heard of Shrinky Dinks until I was well into my adulthood. I never ever played with them until today.

Here's the full story about why I was playing with them today.

Just before Christmas 2011, I rejoined a weight-loss group in which I had been a member YEARS ago. Well, every week, recognition is given to, of course, the weekly best loser and runner up. But we also honour those who stayed the same (neither up nor down in their weight). We call this "being a turtle" and the weight room girls usually give the "turtles" a little turtle pin or ribbon or some such. Well, finding little turtle pins gets to be difficult so I asked our executive if they would like for me to try my hand and making a little something.

I was thinking of the Shrinky Dinks I had bought a while back (for something I never did, not sure what it was) and had found while reorganizing my craft room. I thought to myself that I should try stamping some of my turtle stamps on the Shrinky Dinks and making little charms that we could give to our weekly "turtles".

Well I have to say that I am quite pleased with the results. I haven't gone out to get the jewelry findings to turn these into charms yet but....I just had to share the pictures I have taken of the process so far.

Are you ready? There's lots! The photos tell the story of what I used:

Ruff 'n Ready Shrinky Dinks with Stazon Jet Black Ink (and of course Stazon cleaner to get my stamps back to looking good after the inking).

First batch with Tommy the Turtle from the Aqua Amigos collection from PaperWorksCo (sadly, Peggy closed up shop at the start of this year but you never know, if you don't have Tommy and want him she MIGHT still have some stock lying around if you contact her).

I used my Prismacolor pencils to colour the images then die cut them out with Spellbinders. Note to self - probably better to diecut the circles first, then stamp and colour the images. Might get more out of a page.

Be sure to use a hole punch to put a hole for the jump ring before you put these guys in the oven!

After a quick minute or two in the ove - there you have them!

Aren't they cute? A couple of them are different because I wasn't paying attention as I coloured...oh well.

Second batch with the turtle from the "Down by the Pond" set from The Greeting Farm. This set is retired but you CAN still find it online if you look for retailers who carry stamps from TGF.

Now, while both sets of charms are cute - very cute if I do say so myself - I think that Tommy the Turtle is my favourite.  Once I get the charms finished up I'll post additional photos. My plan is to attach jump rings so I can attach a ribbon which has been stamped with a punny "turtle" saying. The sentiments for the Aqua Amigos included two which I think will work nicely "Let's shellabrate!" and "Turtely happy for you!". I'm hoping I can combine some stamp sets to make a "Turtley amazing!", "Turtely fantastic!" or "Turtely awesome!" ribbons as well. I'm open to other suggestions if you would like to leave a comment!

Mojo Monday 253

Hi folks!

My card-making mojo finally seems to be coming back - this time with this week's Mojo Monday sketch

Interesting, huh? I didn't know if I could do this one or not as it looks rather challenging. But I did!

This one is a little more masculine

And this one is a little more feminine, but the papers are from the same collection.

And yes, I deliberately tilted the sentiment panel on the second card. I think I like it better that  way.

card details:

  • finished size: 4.25 x 5.5 inches, white cardstock base
  • patterned papers: Authentique "Journey" from one of my papercard kits from PaperWorksCo.
  • stamps: Verve "Small Celebrations"
  • Spellbinders: Petite Circles, Scalloped Circles, Pinking Circles
  • lookie! I actually did some sewing on my cards! Entirely due to the fact that part of my craft room reorg has resulted in me setting up a die cutting/paper cutting/sewing station. With my sewing machine now conveniently located, it is so easy to thread it up and do a little sewing on my card.

Viva La Verve July 2012 Week 3

Hi folks,

well, I sat down tonight and squeezed in some crafty time so I could start/finish my cards for the July Viva La Verve challenges over on SCS. I've been finding it VERY hard to get into the craft room. Not only am I on vacation and being a TOTAL layabout, but I think I am AVOIDING the craft room because of the re-org I am doing. Oh my. Totally overwhelming. I am thinking I need to itemize the re-org tasks so I can get my head around what needs to be done and just do them one by one. Tackling the whole craft room enmasse is kind of terrifying.

Anyways, here is the week 3 viva la verve sketch

and here are my two cards

One anniversary card

and one birthday card

card details:

  • finished size: 4.25 x 5.5 inches, kraft cardstock base
  • patterned papers: My Mind's Eye SixBySix "Paris & Co"
  • stamps: Verve "Small Celebrations", "Love Story"
  • brown embroidery floss from my stash
