Yumi and Fumi Challenge Reminder

Hi folks,

just a reminder that today is the deadline to get your entries in for Challenge #22 over at Yumi & Fumi Handmade. The Linky closes at noon Pacific (that's 3pm Eastern) so you still have time to whip up a card based on the inspiration photo! You may just win yourself a gift certificate to the Yumi & Fumi Handmade store!

Just to jog your memory - here's a peek at the photo again...

And while you are visiting the Yumi & Fumi blog, be sure to check out Blankina's tutorial from yesterday - for an AMAZING Tri-Shutter card. Blankina's tutorial actually makes it look fairly uncomplicated to make. I am definitely going to have to give this one a try.

As always, thanks for stopping by!

Viva La Verve - August 2013 - Week 1

Hi folks!

I finally got around to going BACK and doing a card for the Viva La Verve August Week 1 sketch challenge over at Splitcoaststampers.

Here's the sketch:

and here's my card I made for my Uncle (want to guess how old he is going to be on his birthday?)

Now, the two diagonally cut pieces of paper are actually the front and back of the same sheet of patterned paper. However, because of the way I cut it (to get the Roman numerals across the top), the orientation of the keyhole side was wrong for pairing up on the same card so....I wound up cutting a second piece of paper to get the keyholes lined up properly. Since that left me with two more diagonally cut pieces of paper, I decided to make a second card for my stash with the diagonals aligned differently.

I quite like how both cards came out.

card details:

  • finished size: 5.5 x 5.5 inches, kraft card stock base, white card stock mats
  • patterned paper: Bo Bunny "Timeless" (the border, numbers, time piece etc are all from the coordinating sticker page in the paper pack)
  • stamps: Verve "Making a Statement"
  • Spellbinders: Petite Circles

  • sentiment: Verve "Remember This", stamped in CTMH Pacifica ink
  • layout: Sketch Saturday #272
  • Spellbinders: Petite Circles, Scalloped Circles
  • corner rounder punch to round the edges of the central and horizontal panels, Xyron sticker maker to put adhesive onto Yumi's paper-pieced shirt

I managed to grab an hour in the craft room this weekend to play along with the Viva La Verve August Week 2 Sketch challenge over on Splitcoaststampers (and yes, if you are keeping track I have not yet had a chance to do my card for the Week 1 Sketch).

Here's the sketch:

  • finished size: 5x5 inches, white card stock base, black and deep red card stock mats

Yumi and Fumi Handmade Challenge #21 - Team Fumi

Hi folks,

Today I am sharing my Team Fumi creation for Challenge #21 over at the Yumi and Fumi Handmade Challenge Blog.

Challenge #21 is an "Anything Goes" challenge and you have until this Friday to link up your challenge entries at the Y&FH challenge post here.

Don't forget - you can now use ANY stamped image!!! It has to be a coloured image - "sentiment only" cards won't be eligible to win. If you use a Y&FH image, your name will be added a maximum of 1 extra time after the last name in Inlinkz.

What's up for grabs? The winner will receive a $15 gift certificate to the Yumi & Fumi Handmade online store while the Top 3 will receive a 10% discount code to be used in the Yumi & Fumi Handmade online store. AWESOME!

So, here are my projects. Yes, you read that right. Projects. I could not help myself. I really wanted to use images from the Kimono Series and I could not decide between the two stamps that I had from that series (the other two arrived the day after I finished these two so you could have been seeing QUADRUPLE!)  - Yumi with Fan and Fumi with Gift.

I used the same layout for both cards, the August Sketch for You to Try from Reverse Confetti, taking a wee liberty with the Yumi card by changing the layering of the panels and flipping the sketch for the Fumi card.

The most handy tool for colouring these images was my white gelly roll pen from Sakura. I wanted to recreate the look of the kimono on the package for the Yumi stamp so, after colouring the images with my Copic markers,  I added the little dots with the gelly roll pen to Yumi's kimono and to Fumi's gift.

In honour of today's big news, I thought it only appropriate that I share a card (or two) featuring the iconic Yumi and Fumi from the Introducing Yumi and Fumi Series.

Yes - you are seeing double! If you are a frequent visitor, you know I like to build my stash of cards by making multiples of the same card, with just a few slight differences. So, while colouring up the image, I decided to colour it up two different ways to match the different mixes of the patterned papers. Which one do you like best? Personally, I rather like Fumi as a ginger! A different look for her don't you think? Oh, and I actually changed Yumi's hair colour on the first image. I started her out as a yellow blonde, didn't really like it when I finished, so coloured over the original hair colour with darker browns. I think the yellow low-lights actually add a bit of depth to the hair colour in real life.

card details:
  • finished size: 5x5 inches, white card stock base, CTMH Sorbet mats
  • patterned paper: Doodlebug Designs "Flower Box"
  • stamped image: "Yumi and Fumi" from the "Introducing Yumi and Fumi Series" by Yumi and Fumi Handmade. Stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on Copic Express paper. Coloured with Copic Markers. Here's the breakdown of the colours I used:
    • skin: E000, E00, E01, E02, E93
    • hair: Yumi #1: Y21, Y23, Y32, Y35, E47, E49, E57, E59. Yumi #2: E53, E55, E57, E59, E47. Fumi #1: E21, E23, E25, E27. Fumi #2: E97, E99, E07, E08
    • eyes: B14, E17
    • clothing: Yumi: Y00, Y02, Y04, Y08, Y08, YR18, E55, E57, E59, B91, B93, B95, B97. Fumi #1: YR12, YR15, YR16, YR18, E57, E55. Fumi #2: YG07, G07, G03, E57, E55
