Hi folks

Today I'm sharing a card I made for my nephew. I usually make him either an end of school year, summer or beginning of school year card. This year....well, it's kind of a combo end of school/summer card.

As usual, he had a fantastic report card and, even though he isn't really into summer sports (he's more a computer geek like me), I thought this would be a fun image to use so I could use this sentiment. He really is a star in my books!

I've actually had Baseball Oliver (Sparkle Creations Rubber Stamps very own boy of summer) for ages but it's my first time using it. I actually had to put it on EZ-mount because I hadn't done that yet. Yay for using a stamp that hasn't been used yet!

Playing around with Shrinky Dinks

Hi folks,

well today I played around in my craft room with Shrinky Dinks. I guess I had a somewhat deprived childhood growing up on the coast of Newfoundland as I never heard of Shrinky Dinks until I was well into my adulthood. I never ever played with them until today.

Here's the full story about why I was playing with them today.

Just before Christmas 2011, I rejoined a weight-loss group in which I had been a member YEARS ago. Well, every week, recognition is given to, of course, the weekly best loser and runner up. But we also honour those who stayed the same (neither up nor down in their weight). We call this "being a turtle" and the weight room girls usually give the "turtles" a little turtle pin or ribbon or some such. Well, finding little turtle pins gets to be difficult so I asked our executive if they would like for me to try my hand and making a little something.

I was thinking of the Shrinky Dinks I had bought a while back (for something I never did, not sure what it was) and had found while reorganizing my craft room. I thought to myself that I should try stamping some of my turtle stamps on the Shrinky Dinks and making little charms that we could give to our weekly "turtles".

Well I have to say that I am quite pleased with the results. I haven't gone out to get the jewelry findings to turn these into charms yet but....I just had to share the pictures I have taken of the process so far.

Are you ready? There's lots! The photos tell the story of what I used:

Ruff 'n Ready Shrinky Dinks with Stazon Jet Black Ink (and of course Stazon cleaner to get my stamps back to looking good after the inking).

First batch with Tommy the Turtle from the Aqua Amigos collection from PaperWorksCo (sadly, Peggy closed up shop at the start of this year but you never know, if you don't have Tommy and want him she MIGHT still have some stock lying around if you contact her).

I used my Prismacolor pencils to colour the images then die cut them out with Spellbinders. Note to self - probably better to diecut the circles first, then stamp and colour the images. Might get more out of a page.

Be sure to use a hole punch to put a hole for the jump ring before you put these guys in the oven!


After a quick minute or two in the ove - there you have them!

Aren't they cute? A couple of them are different because I wasn't paying attention as I coloured...oh well.

Second batch with the turtle from the "Down by the Pond" set from The Greeting Farm. This set is retired but you CAN still find it online if you look for retailers who carry stamps from TGF.

Now, while both sets of charms are cute - very cute if I do say so myself - I think that Tommy the Turtle is my favourite.  Once I get the charms finished up I'll post additional photos. My plan is to attach jump rings so I can attach a ribbon which has been stamped with a punny "turtle" saying. The sentiments for the Aqua Amigos included two which I think will work nicely "Let's shellabrate!" and "Turtely happy for you!". I'm hoping I can combine some stamp sets to make a "Turtley amazing!", "Turtely fantastic!" or "Turtely awesome!" ribbons as well. I'm open to other suggestions if you would like to leave a comment!

A Strawberry Shortcake kind of birthday

Hi folks,

the eldest daughter of dear friends of ours celebrated her 6th birthday on Good Friday. She requested a Strawberry Shortcake themed birthday cake and I assisted in the hunt for a cute little toy as the cake topper (it's convenient to work in office tower attached to a mall).

So, I thought I should try to do a card with a similar theme for her. I knew I had some paper covered with yummy strawberries in my stash (thanks to my DT work with PaperWorksCo) and promptly pulled it out for this card.

I am quite pleased with how the card turned out. I coloured this new TGF image (from the Sitting Lovely set) with what I hope are close matches to Strawberry Shortcake's clothing colours.

First Valentine of 2012

Hi folks,

while I was making the birthday card for our youngest cat, I was inspired by something that I saw Kelly is  challenging herself to do - use up some stuff! Images that are already coloured, supplies that should be used or should find a new home...that sort of thing.

Now the papers are new to me but the image is one I had sitting in a pile on my desk and, though it is actually part of the Get Well Abby collection from PaperWorksCo, I think it is perfect for all sorts of occasions. With Valentine's Day coming up, I took the opportunity to whip up a quick Valentine's Day card for one of our nieces. No need to spend a couple of hours colouring, no need to ponder over papers. It matched wonderfully with the papers already on my table for Newton's card! I even used the same sketch!

Another sad day, another store closing

Hi folks,

as some of you know, some time ago I was one of the design team members over at PaperWorksCo.

I just wanted to pass along the sad news that as of January 1st, Peggy and Mike have decided to close up shop. There is a post over at the shop's main page announcing the decision. I know it was a hard decision for them to make and I will certainly miss getting cute new stamps from PaperWorksCo. But just because the company is closing up shop, it doesn't mean that you will stop seeing PWCO stamps on my blog.

In fact, I went to the store site this morning (since it was easier than getting into my craft room at the moment!) to check out the R.A.M. wedding release as I need to make a congratulations on your wedding engagement card for my little bro and wanted to see which one I could use. So....yep, I'll still be using them you can bet! And you all know that Harriet the Hippo is still my all time fave PWCO stamp - way back from the first stamp release!

Anyways, please join me in wishing Peggy and Mike all the best in all their other endeavours (they've left a contact email on the main page of the store site at which they can be reached).

Now...where did I leave that box of kleenex? sniff sniff.

The rules are changing for the PWCO sketch challenge and, for those of you who don't yet own your own PWCO stamps, Peg is giving you a chance to snap up a PWCO digi to use in the challenges! Psst...and here's a little secret...I've been building a little blog candy since March (it was supposed to be for my birthday but....well, life got in the way) and once I dig out my craft room (yet again), I'll hopefully find all the bits and pieces. I'm hoping to get organized and have a bit of candy for you soon!


And tonight, I see that Mo Manning has a sweet fund-raising digi up on her store. Now, you all know that I'm a cat person but I just had to buy the digi - Bronte Kisses. It's for a good cause, and only $1. To be honest, the sweet puppy looks an awful lot like my youngest cat - we actually call him our "sweet little puppy" because he follows us around the house giving us "puppy dog eyes" all the time.


anyways, that's it for tonight. Still nothing crafty from me. I DID bake though - mmm, rhubarb coffee cake.

okay, so that's enough yammering from me for now. I'm still trying to decide what to do today. By my tally I have earned some SERIOUS craft room time (all day by my count), but today is supposed to be nice and my yard/garden is craving some serious Spring cleanup before I go back to work tomorrow. I think I better get to it and get out the de-thatching rake.....sigh.
