WOYWW - August 17th

Hi folks,

it's time for What's on your Workdesk Wednesday. If you don't know what it is all about, be sure to stop by  Julia's blog, the Stamping Ground, to see everyone who is playing along (and maybe link up a peek into your crafty space).

Here's my usual desk, with some different supplies for me....

My younger sister has asked me to make a few decorative pieces for her youngest daughter's room (she will be a year old in September - my niece, not my sister!). I had previously given her a frame using the Safari friends from PaperWorksCo and she would like me to use those same stamps on these pieces. She sent me some inspiration photos of the sort of thing for which she is looking - little pictures with zoo animals and alphabet blocks sort of thing.

So....I have picked up some 8x10 artist canvas (10 of them but I will probably only use 4) and some Mod Podge. I have a rough idea of what I want to do but decided it would be a good idea to stamp out the images on some sticky notes first, cut them out and then draw out my actual design plan first. Then I'll choose my papers and cut them out for the backgrounds, stamp my images for real and colour them up and then mod podge it all onto the canvases. Hopefully I can actually implement what I have pictured in my mind. I'll be sure to post the project here if it turns out (heck, even if it doesn't)! If it works out well, I have some ideas for the other 6 canvases I will have left over (though I expect at least one will be lost to me figuring out how to do this mod podge stuff).

Oh, and the Cricut cartridges are out because she has also asked me to decorate some wooden letters that spell out her daughter's name using either the same PWCO images or the cricut animal cuts. I'll be playing with those as well over the next few weeks.

And yes, since my last post I have acquired the last of my Copic Sketch markers. I have them all now! Yay! If only my creativity would make a reappearance!

WOYWW - August 3rd

Hi folks!

well, it IS still Wednesday here in Ottawa. I debated whether or not to do a WOYWW post today ... aren't you all tired of seeing my messy desk by now?

But I offer up as proof that, during my week off, I did find my way into my craft room to add to the mess that was already there.

I did make cards (and bookmarks) and most of the papers that I used are still on the table. Growing the pile on the left. And if you could see my OTHER desk, growing the pile over there as well!

So, yes, the Copics that showed up LAST Wednesday have all been put into my NEW container. I'm missing only ONE of them now (RV63) as my usual supplier was out of stock when I placed my final order. I have a few other suppliers on my list so I'll be trying to hook myself up with that last errant marker on my next order from one of them.

Now, I do have yet another embarrassing confession about my craft room. Last week I had planned to make a baby quilt or two while I was off. Ummm....well, I couldn't find the fabric. It IS in my craft room - I just don't know where. It isn't in the closet with the rest of my fabric. I'm sure it is buried under a pile of .... something....somewhere.....but I'm afraid that if I move any of those piles and they fall over that I won't be found for days. Well, hours really. The cats would kick up a fuss if I missed their next feeding.

WOYWW - July 27

Hi folks,

I know I haven't played along with What's on your Workdesk Wednesday in what seems like ages. To be  honest, I haven't been feeling all that creative so there has not been much to see in "ye olde crafty chaos". I did get into the craft room today and made one card and started on another. But then we got a phone call that this baby was ready for my dearly beloved to pick up from dealer so I thought I would share THIS photo instead of one of my craft room....

He is sure to get a lot of teasing from friends, family and coworkers. The OTHER two motorcycles in our garage (mine and his) are both sport bikes. This one is a cruiser. Honestly, it is a LOT more comfortable for two people than a sport bike. And to test it out, we did our annual pilgrimmage for....

Yep, for the first time in a couple of years, I was back to being a passenger. Must say, I enjoy riding along on the back of my sweetie's bike.  Especially with a burger, fries and lemonade as my reward!

Maybe I'll get back to the craft room tomorrow as he plans to go out riding....I'm still feeling a little nervous myself about getting back onto my own bike (a wee little Honda CBR 125 for those that might be curious). Maybe by the end of the week, maybe not until the end of summer....who knows?

WOYWW - July 6th

Hi folks,

sorry but there is no peek at my desk this week (I have something better!). I have not been in my craft room since LAST Monday. So what you saw last week, well, it's still there!

We had a busy holiday weekend here in Canada. We hosted a barbeque for 19 people at our house on Friday (Canada Day) and then I spent the weekend recovering. No crafting time. Well, except in the kitchen where I made MORE JAM! This time Strawberry-Rhubarb

I still have lots of rhubarb so I'll be hitting the local farms again this week to pick up more strawberries for jamming.

But here is the really good part of this week's WOYWW post! My PIF from the ever so talented Neil Walker arrived on Tuesday!!!

I am the lucky recipient of one of his lovely journals and beautiful tags!

Like the lady in the vintage image on the journal, I am swooning at the beauty of this piece. And yes, if you look in the bottom right you can see WOYWW!

And here is the lovely tag that Neil enclosed with this lovely PIF.

I am so very envious of all of you out there who are so skilled at the vintage/distressed technique. I SO want to learn this method of artistic expression - I REALLY wish there was someone local who could give me  tips and pointers on where to start. sigh....

WOYWW - June 29th

Hi folks....

well...it is that time of the week...when those of us who aren't TOO embarrassed by our crafty chaos share a peek into our spaces with What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday.

I probably SHOULD be embarrassed by this (new stamps, the ever present Scotch ATG, my cuttlebug, copics...there's a case of PrismaColor pencils buried in there somewhere, last week's Pixie Cottage card, papers from this week's Pixie Cottage card....)

But I'm not. Why? Because of this!!!

Remember last week's WOYWW post with my very large quantity of gooseberries? Well, after 12 hours of topping and tailing the berries and another 6.5 hours of actually doing the cooking/canning, I have 42 250ml jars and 1 125ml jar of Strawberry/Gooseberry jam.

And you want to know something crazy? I plan to stop by one of the local strawberry farms again this weekend to pick up even more strawberries. I'm thinking some strawberry/rhubard jam is going to be made next....and maybe some straight-up strawberry jam.

WOYWW - June 22nd

Hi folks!

Well, instead of showing you a photo of my craft room for WOYWW, I thought I would show you something that will be taking away from my crafty time this week.

What's this you ask? 32 cups (8L) of gooseberries. We have one gooseberry bush in our garden and I spent 3.5 hours picking these berries on Sunday. Definitely our most prolific year so far. Now they have to be topped and tailed and made into jam, with an equivalent amount of strawberries. Lucky for me, the local strawberries are now in season - dearly beloved and I have been doing our best to polish off our first 4L basket of the season this week. Mmm...fresh strawberries, angel food cake and Devon Custard. YUMMMMMMM.....

I'm thinking I may have to take at least one day, maybe two off from work in order to get all these berries made into jam.

So, does anyone out there have any fave gooseberry recipes to share? Feel free to drop me an email via the link in my sidebar with your faves...or leave a link in the comments!

Oh....and I had a note from my PIF partner, Carolyn. Despite our postal strike here in Canada, my package made it's way across the pond safe and sound! Would you like to see what I sent?

I made one of my clip photo frame white boards -- and used the dry erase marker that went with it to write the WOYWW anagram on the Wednesdays in the calendar section.

I hope this is a welcome addition to Carolyn's craft space. I have one in my craft room that you can usually see in my WOYWW posts - I use mine to keep track of the cards I need to make in the next two months.

Oh, and I also sent along this matching card.

WOYWW - June 15th and Viva La Verve Week 1

Hi folks!

It's Wednesday - time for a peek at my desk for What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday!

Believe it or not, this is tidied up from yesterday!

Down front you can see the card I mentioned in the previous post that I  had to "fix" (more on that later).

My Copic chart is there as well as I pulled it out to make another order from Lora at OneCrazyStamper. On this order, I'm planning on getting the rest of the BG and YG markers that I don't have in my collection. That's about another 30 I do believe.

And something you don't see very often - my set of PrismaColor pencils. Yes, I have the big set - 120 pencils. I had them out colouring the lighthouse image that was used on two of my Father's Day cards and the birthday card you see in the photo.

Now for those  of you who stuck around, here's the card in the photo! Yes, I know, for you regular readers that this is my third card this week with this image and these papers. But this one will be a birthday card for one of my Uncles.

What I had to fix? The sentiment panel. Originally, I had inked the edges (as I did on the previous card) instead of distressing them with my scissors. Totally wrong since, on this card, the card stock had all been scissor distressed and the patterned papers were ink distressed. Totally wrong. I could NOT leave that inconsistency on the finished card.

WOYWW - June 8th

Hi folks!

Phew wasn't that an awesome WOYWW last week? I finally got my PIF into the post yesterday - the postal service here in Canada is currently taking job action so I was reluctant at first to drop it into the mail system. But, turns out to be a rotating strike, from city to city and so far, Ottawa has not been hit. Fingers crossed my PIF gets to its intended recipient in the UK in the time that CanadaPost promised - two to three weeks!!! Don't get me started on "standards of delivery"! Really? Two to three WEEKS? I was thinking a week at the MOST!

Anyways, here's a shot of my desk as I finished up last night (yes, I was crafting on a week-night and NO you can't see what it was until next Wednesday's post for the Pixie Cottage!)

What you CAN see are the papers, Spellbinders dies and Copics I was using on my project!....oh, and the usual mess.

Not sure how observant you might be but my stash of Copics has grown since last week's post - there's another 27 markers in that tote. By my calculations, I have another 100 to go and I will have them all (except for the Fluorescents and Spicas). I'm going to need a bigger container. ETA - some you have asked what the container is...Boy I WISH it was an empty ice cream container as it is 40 degrees Celsius here today and I would have enjoyed emptying it! It is actually an "Art Bin" tipped up on edge, with the insert tray and lid removed for easy access. When I go to crops or play dates, I just pop the lid back on and my Copics are instantly portable.

WOYWW #104 - June 1st

Hi folks!

It's the big day - the second anniversary of What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday! So just need to get a couple of things out of the way first

• yes I am playing along with the PIF so......for whoever is playing along with the PIF and is next after me, I hope there's a way to reach you via your blog! If not, you can email ME via the link in my sidebar on the left.
• and for my PIF partner, I'm in Canada and right now we are under threat of a looming postal strike. We will know for sure in the next day. So, I'm going to wait until the strike deadline passes tomorrow before posting my package. If there is no strike, I'll go via Canadapost. If there IS a strike, then I will UPS my WOYWW PIF creation to you. Never fear! You will get your PIF!!!
• and...no sneaks of my PIF project! As Julia said in the PIF rules, no posting it until you know that your PIF partner has received the package. No spoiling the surprise!

So.....my WOYWW post is all about the mess on my desk after I finished up the cards I started on Monday and completed last night.

The finished cards (which will be posted on my blog tomorrow) are in the centre, the papers I was using on the left, along with the sketch and one of my quilting squares. On the right there are a couple of glue guns. I didn't feel like reloading my ATG in the middle of finishing my cards so I pulled out my Glue Glider Pro. My trusty Cuttlebug has a new location on the corner of my desk. Saves me the trouble of picking it up off the floor half a dozen times while making a card!

WOYWW - May 25th

Hi folks,

technically, this could be called WOYW Monday or WOYW Tuesday as I took this photo on Monday after making the two Christmas cards in my previous post and have not been back to my craft room since then.

It could probably also be labelled WOYW Thursday or Friday as well since I don't see me getting back to crafting until this weekend as I rarely get creative on weeknights.

As usual, my Copics are in their easy to access spot. I figure I'll be getting rest of them (another 100 or so) very shortly since a price increase has been announced from the manufacturer effective August 1st. You can see my Copic hand-coloured chart is lying there underneath a couple of Spellbinders sets I had out for the last two cards I made. 

There's stamps waiting to be put away and sketches waiting to be used.

WOYWW - May 18th

Hi folks,

it's that time of the week again - when we get to show the rest of the crafty world the chaos in which (I  hope) most of us create. It isn't just me who feels happiest crafting in a pile of stuff, right?

So here is the usual crafting spot. I haven't done anything here since Sunday when I was working on the Christmas cards I have posted this week.

AND......lookie! I got the stuff from the crop that was occupying this floor space put away!  One question - why did it take me 45 minutes to pack for the crop and about 4 hours to put it all back again?

Oh, and that's one of our cats doing a little photo-bomb. When Packet (yes that's his nerdy name) hears my craft room door open, he comes running in so he can lick the plastic bag that lines my trash can. It's an ongoing battle.

WOYWW - May 11th

Hi folks,

it's that time of the week - WOYWW! Well, if you were here last week you might recall that I had yet to pack for the "Crop for the Cure" that I was attending on Saturday. Well, I didn't pack until Saturday morning. And I did it in just 45 minutes.

Guess what? I haven't put anything back yet. I did a post on Sunday showing the state of my craft room the day after. Well, here it is today if you would like to compare....

If anything, it might be worse as I had to pull out some stamps and ink to finish off this card that I was working on at the crop.

WOYWW - May 4th

Hi folks! It's that time of the week - when you get to see just how messy my craft table has gotten in the last couple of days. Actually, this week it looks pretty tidy as I DID straighten up after making my card on Tuesday night.....

Yep. Straightened up. What I SHOULD do is take a photo this coming Friday night and again on Sunday. I'm attending an all day crop on Saturday in support of a local breast cancer walk and, based on experience, my craft room will be a disaster once I pull out everything I'm going to take with me ... and then try to put it back!

after finishing up this card last night I decided to lay out a few things to encourage myself to maybe work on a few more of my Mother's day cards when I get home after work today (before I go off to my booty camp class).

There's a few extra of the same tulip images coloured up and waiting to be used, along with the CTMH Amore papers that I will probably use again.

I've also got another flower image stamped up four times to hopefully get coloured and made into cards sometime in the next couple of days.

And there's a pile of 6x6 paper pads that I THOUGHT I might use on Mother's day cards but none of them are appealing to me for these flower stamps. Gah. You would think that with all the papers I have I would have SOMETHING I liked for these stamps but...I'm coming up short.

WOYWW - April 20th

Hi folks,

here's a peek at my desk as I finished up making a card last night for a dear friend who celebrates her birthday today. Ever the procrastinator, I knew long ago which image I wanted to use on her card but  I waited until the day before to make her card. I wanted a dedicated time when I could give it the time it deserved - not rushy, rushy. I'll be back later today with a pic of her card as I will be delivering it later today. But for now you can see the mess my desk was in when I finished up...

Let's see - Basic Grey Hopscotch paper and buttons, dimensional foam squares, the giant glue runner, my heat gun, a sketch, my case of ink daubers......yep, all were used in making the card!

WOYWW - April 13th

Hi all....I must say I am REALLY late doing this week's WOYWW post.

I forgot to snap a pic last night because I was watching the Russell Crowe movie "Robin Hood" with dearly beloved. I MEANT to do my post after work today but...well, life got in the way until now. There was some paper shopping, relaxing, booty camp class, shower, dinner, some PVRed tv programs with my sweetie and then catching up on blog posts when it hit me that I STILL hadn't done my WOYWW post....

so here you go! A pic of my disaster area(s)

table #1 - messier than usual. Nothing crafty going on. Just a dumping ground the last few days as I tried to sort out other areas in the room. There is a cute stuffed kitteh that I could not resist buying (for myself). There are also some extra Easter images I have coloured up tucked behind one of my lamps. Those will be made into cards the next couple of days as I took the rest of the week off since I am not on-call this week.

table #2 and the space beneath....no excuses EXCEPT that I was cleaning out the corner of the room and the closet and this became ANOTHER dumping area.  Oh and there are some birthday presents there as well. My new Wacom Bamboo tablet that I have now had for two weeks and have not yet had a chance to plug in and try out. Will remedy that sometime in the next four days! The box on the desk is waiting to be filled with crafty goodies for a friend to use with the kids with whom she works. All those binders and plastic bins - confession time - they are filled with stamps....as are the white boxes. Apparently paper is not my  only weakness.

Okay and this is some of the stuff that was hiding in the closet that I will be doing something with. Another binder and some boxes of cards (not handmade)....oh, and another new thing....a Ribbon Box that I have not yet had a chance to fill. Again, sometime in the next four days.....

Betcha no one else showed as big a mess as I did this week! And trust me, you didn't see the entire room! The "paper corner" is a REAL disaster.

WOYWW - March 30th

Hi folks,

well I missed playing along last week - by the time I remembered it was Wednesday I just didn't have the energy/time to do a post.

So this week you get treated to both of the workdesks in my craft room (eep!)

My usual workspace - as it was when I finished crafting on Sunday night.

You can see the Verve sketch I used to make the cards that night (you can see them in this post if you are interested) and my quick and dirty setup to take the photos of them. On the right is my container of Easter cards I have so far made this year. Still quite a few to go and I have already made sixteen. The card in front isn't one of the Easter cards though - just an all occasion card for my stash. My handy dandy label maker is out and about (labelled some new Verve stamps) and my ever-present pink ATG.

And now for the other desk....

There is a very good reason why I work on the other one, huh? This one is always a mess - Spellbinders and paper cutter off to the left. Piles of scrap paper and new stamps waiting to be put away. My laptop (tuned in to Julia's WOYWW post if you take a closer peek at the photo!). I haven't yet turned on my tv (almost always tuned to SPACE - Canada's science fiction tv station) but you can bet it is on now that I am writing this post.

I'm actually off work today, tomorrow and friday (and have the weekend too of course) as tomorrow is my birthday (the big 42 - which makes me think I should re-read "Hitchhiker's Guide to Galaxy" to celebrate) and I try VERY hard to avoid being at work around my birthday. I like to just veg at home and do whatever strikes me that day - it might be crafting, it might laundry, it might be house-cleaning. I know....exciting huh!

WOYWW - March 16th

Hi folks....

well, I remembered to snap a pic as I finished up last night in my craft room so...here's what it looks like today!

Yep, I was crafting in this mess! On the left you can see the door to one of my paper cabinets wide open and the drawers inside. I was looking for green papers for a St. Patty's day card.

On the desk itself, the sundries I was using for making the card - sketch, paper, ink, ribbon, Copic marker and adhesive.  My little case of ink daubers is precariously perched on the edge of the table.

There's also a pile of newly arrived stamps from The Greeting Farm that need to be cut out before I can use them.

WOYWW - March 9th

Hi folks,

I missed playing WOYWW last  week - I can't remember why. But I did snap a pic last night when I finished up so I could write this up this morning before heading in to work.

Last night, I decided to print a copy of the new Copic Marker chart and colour it up. Well.....I only got partially through the new chart before the Pancake Tuesday sleepies hit me (mmmm, pancakes, bacon, sausage and Cranberry/Black Cherry Mimosas for dinner).

I will have to finish the G, BG, B, E and Greys tonight I guess.

So, What's on my desk?

• my old Copic Chart and my new Copic Chart
• the container of Copics
• my list of Easter Cards to be made
• sentiment stamps from the last few cards I made
• some paper scraps
• and the big pink Scotch ATG
