Carl for Noah

And this is the card for Noah - my friend Dorothy's nephew who is sharing a birthday party with her tomorrow. I believe he may be turning 10 years old.



For this card I used Sketch #3 from Tuesday Morning Sketches.

Carl is from Stamps and Smiles and was coloured with Prismacolor Pencils blended with Taltine. The image and sentiment panels were cut with nestabilities - circle, pinking circle and ovals.

The papers and ribbon are from my July PaperCard kit from PaperWorksCo.

The card measures 4 x 5.5 and the rest of the details are:

Cuppy for Andrea

This little gem will be going to my friend Dorothy's niece, Andrea, as there is a joint birthday party I will be attending that will celebrate Dorothy, Andrea and Noah's (Dorothy's nephew, Andrea's brother) birthdays. Can't go to a birthday party without a card!



For this card I used the SASSC25 sketch over at the Fresh Batch. Cuppy is, of course, from Stamps and Smiles. She is coloured with Prismacolor Pencils blended with Taltine.

The papers, ribbon and brads are from my July Papercard kit from PaperworksCo . Loving those Lime Rickey Papers from Basic Grey.

The sentiment panels were cut using my nestabilities (circle and scalloped circle).

Card measures 5x5.

Hope Andrea likes it! I'm not really sure how old she is...maybe 8?

Happy Birthday to my niece

One of my nieces has a birthday on July 18th - she will be 10 years old. This is her card, using Mismatch Ketto.



I used the Sweet Stop Sketch Saturday Sketch SSS12 .

Mismatch Ketto's outfit was paper-pieced and her crown was given a few jewels to bling it up. Her hair was coloured with prismacolor pencils and her face was distress ink. For the sentiment I rock and rolled with two different colours (picked up from the papers). I also managed to dig out my sewing machine to do a little stitching on this one.

Just Bee-cuze

Over at Stamps and Smiles, this week's Fresh Batch Sketch was a fun sketch with which to play.

As you can see below, I turned the sketch on its side.



I did a bunch of paper-piecing on this one. I stamped the pot onto terra cotta coloured DP and then glued coffee grounds for the dirt. Yes, coffee grounds. Although I realized too late that we grind our coffee super-fine so.....maybe oreo cookie crumbs would have been better...tee hee hee! I just realized, I technically allowed coffee back into my craft room. And it wasn't a disaster!

The stem and leaves were stamped onto a pale green cardstock with two leaves for dimension. The same is true of the flower. I stamped it twice onto watercolour paper, then coloured with prismacolor pencils.

Mr. Bee was stamped onto yellow cardstock and then his wings were Stickled.

A reworked card

I need a birthday card this week for the son of a friend of mine. Out came this card that I made during the card workshop at the Crop for the Cure.


Now, I wasn't really happy with it. Seemed a little plain jane to me. So, I decided to tweak it a little. Off came the balloons and on went Carl.


I cut two panels, same size, from some CTMH textured card stock (used both sides to get the different colours) using my small deckled rectangle nestabilities. Turned one ninety degrees and ... ta da. Notice that Carl is identical to the previous post? I had coloured two of him as I wasn't sure if I was going to pop him up on my cousin's card or not. So, there you go. A reworked card.

The Fresh Batch - SASSC19

This week's sketch over at Stamps and Smiles- The Fresh Batch was definitely a neat one to work with. I took inspiration from one of the cards that used a nestabilities labels die and came up with this birthday card for my cousin.


Carl has become a very popular subject with cards I am making for the men/boys in my life.

This is the inside of the card.


The card measures 6x6.

paper:
black cardstock base is CTMH
DP is "Namath" from the MVP line from patterned paper (got it at Desserres)
Nestabilities Labels Two was used for the panels.
The lower grey panel was embossed with my cuttlebug. I can never remember if that one is the herringbone or argyle. Whatever.
Outside sentiment panel was cut with my nestabilities small deckled rectangles...twice to make it smaller.
Stamped image and sentiment are Stamps and Smiles. Carl was coloured with -- my prismacolours!

June Sheetload of Cards with Carl

Aren't social networks little tattle-tales? I saw something tonight that I am very happy to say spilled the beans on a co-worker's birthday tomorrow. Phew! The June issue of Sheetload of Cards came to my rescue for a quick card sketch to use.



And, lucky for me I had visited Deserres and Michael's yesterday and picked up some masculine looking papers. I stamped a couple of Carl the Cupcake (from Stamps and Smiles), coloured him with my watercolours (my prismas are on their way as of May 27th) and cut out and popped up the second image. I did the edge of the blue panel with one of my EK success border punches. Inside the card I stamped the sentiment "A little cupcake told me....it's your birthday!". Said co-worker should not be eating REAL cupcakes as he is recovering from some cardiac episodes from the last year... and is only in his mid-forties!

So, I think I did pretty good for a quick masculine card. I really need to try to keep a few on-hand.

Happy Birthday - Doodlefactory style

This card is for a co-worker who celebrates his birthday today. Tomorrow he gets this card:



along with some cupcakes and home-made peanut butter cups. Actually, a whole bunch of peanut cups were made - 6 dozen in fact. Mostly to be taken to his Mom in Nova Scotia (she's a fan of my pb cups). I made so much filling I actually have a whole cake decorating bag full left-over. My dearly beloved made a suggestion for a square I could make so.....I'll be in the kitchen again tomorrow night!

This card is for a few challenges on the Stampin' Out Alzheimer's site. The sketch is from the Little Paper Shop challenge. I decided to play it up a bit and make this a clear card for another of the challenges. I also attached the rectangular panels by sewing them on (for another of the challenges to included stitching on your card). And finally, I attached three buttons for an element of the sketch for another of the challenges.

My little guy is another Doodlefactory image. The cake and sentiment are from Stamps and Smiles. Links to both sources are on the left side of the blog.

Happy Birthday from Cuppy!

So this is my first Stamps and Smiles card with my new stamps that arrived this week! Say Hello to Cuppy! Isn't she cute?



The card sketch is SASSC17 from Stamps and Smiles. The colour choice is from another challenge over at Stampin' Out Alzheimer's. This card is for the two by two challenge sponsored by Taylored Expressions - use pink and brown and only TWO types of embellishments. My DP is pink with white polka-dots. I matted everything with brown. The ribbon (embellie #1) is pink and brown and my dew drops (embellie #2) are brown.

I did two Cuppy images. One is popped up on dimensionals. Cuppy's frosting is paper-pieced from swirly pink paper. Then I masked Cuppy and sponged the background before adding her balloon.

I have to say I absolutely love these images from Stamps and Smiles.

SASMR4 - For my chick flick pal

Ahhh...the final sketch challenge from Stamps and Smiles, SASMR4 .



This card will be going to my movie-going pal who celebrates her birthday this week.

The papers are CTMH - from the Key to my Heart paper pack. hmmm...now that I've cracked it open I can't seem to stop using those papers. I just love them!

Both sets of panels were cut with my nestabilities. The sentiment is from my favourite CTMH stamp set and look, what's that? Yup, another one of those flowers!

SASMR3 - For my Aunt

This card will be making it's way south of the border tomorrow to my Aunt who celebrates her birthday next week.

The sketch uses the SASMR3 sketch from the Stamps and Smiles challenges this week.

The papers are from the CTMH Key to My Heart package and the flower, vase and sentiment are from one of my favourite CTMH stamp sets (judging by how badly the stamps are stained!) The flower and vase are each stamped twice with the second image popped up on dimensionals. The colonial white panel was cuttlebugged with my swiss dots folder.

Hope she likes her card! I'll be seeing her in Newfoundland this August as she is planning a visit so I am going to go home at the same time to see her - for the first time in over twenty years! Maybe even 25......or possibly 30....

SASMR2 - Happy Anniversary

On May 7th my dearly beloved and I celebrate nine years of being together. So, the card I made for him had to be a little special. The SASMR2 sketch from Stamps and Smiles came to the rescue.


I decided that the sketch screamed APERTURE card to me so out came the nestabilities and the cuttlebug. As you can see, my photography skills on aperture cards are even worse than usual. This is the front of the card (yes, that's my finger on the left and a camera shadow on the right) held flat so you can see the sentiment clearly through the aperture.


Above is a standing shot of the front. I layered CTMH paper from the Key to my heart package on top of colonial white cardstock which was layered on sorbet cardstock. Precision cutting with the nestabilities required some invisible tape to hold the dies in perfect position as each layer was cut, starting with the largest opening.

And this is the inside of the card. Frugal me used the offcuts from the DP and the colonial white for my sentiment panel on the inside. The sentiments by the way are from the friendship word puzzle stamp set from CTMH.


I think my dearly beloved will like it -- even if it has an awful lot of "pink" tones.

SASMR1 - Mother's Day

Over at Stamps and Smiles they are previewing their new release all week and are hosting sketch challenges each day as well.

For the SASMR1 sketch, I made these two VERY similar cards for two of the Mom's I know.
The first is for my sister.


This second one is for my dearly beloved's step-mother.

Both cards use the same papers from CTMH (from the Key to My Heart promo). The circles were cut with my nestabilities using my cuttlebug. One card has a slightly larger set of circles as I used two different Verve sentiment stamps and one was bigger than the other, requiring a bigger set of circles. The flowers I picked up at Zellers - $1 for 4 of them. Not too bad since they are two layer flowers, with a brad and a sticky dimensional on the back.

The cards also fit challenge 30 Secret Crafter Saturday Challenge and Challenge 29 at the Cuttlebug Spot and the day 65 challenge over at 365 Cards.

SASSC3 - Happy Birthday To Leap Baby Uncle

I used my small and large label nestabilities for the centre panel. My circle nestabilities for the birthday sentiment. And finally.....a cuttlebug die cut for the lattice strip.

Very simple ... which is where I usually tend to go for masculine cards. Recognize the paper? A few posts back it was used on another card!
