Happy Wintereenmas

Uh huh....nerd house. January 25th marks the week long celebration of Wintereenmas. Don't believe me? Check out

I'll be a video game widow this week. Should make for lots of time to make some cards in the evening!

Font Squirrel

Okay, so not a card post right now but something I have to share.

FREE FONTS!!!! And some are so nice for card-making (see the Script group in particular).

Anyways, had to share!

Magical Pegasys

So this is my card for the Magical Unicorn challenge over at The Greeting Farm (see

Since I drive to work every day in a car that has a license plate that reads "PEGASYS" I felt I had to make mine a winged unicorn. Liberal interpretation of the mythical Pegasus I know but heh, I HAD to do it! The little guy's wings are actually butterfly wings stamped onto vellum. How cute is that (butterfly stamp from the CTMH Simple Beauty set). The photo below is to show the layering details. One wing is mounted behind the uni, the other is on his body. Vellum tape did the job! The butterfly, flowers and Pegasys are mounted on foam dots.

The Magical sentiment (from CTMH Magical Season stamp set) is stamped on a nestabilities die cut. A little ribbon tops it off. I think a simple but pretty card. The paper is a cloud/sky print I got at Michael's ages ago.

Anyways, ta ta for now.

Too much excitement

To say this was an exciting weekend - well, doesn't begin to cover it.

Thursday - Doug returned from Vancouver.....Purdy's Chocolate Hedgehogs in hand. Yummy! January order from CTMH arrived. YAYYYY!

Friday - took the day off from work. Bigger YAYYYYYY! EXTRA LONG WEEKEND!

Saturday - cuttlebugging with my neighbour Dominique. I cut out a bunch of stuff that will show up soon on some Valentine cards I will post. I enjoyed myself so much and completely lost track of time.

Sunday - finished my January CCC09 cards. That's 10 christmas cards made for the month of January for Christmas 2009. AND.......while I was making the cards I was apparently emulating Nero. One of the small sheds - I call it the Chicken Coop - on the farm behind our house went up in flames. I discovered this when I popped out of the craft room to toss my sweatshirt into the bedroom and wondered where the weird red glow was coming from. EEEP....I went running downstairs yelling "call 911 call 911. The shed is on fire on the farm". Well no sooner did Doug hang up the phone when the fire trucks arrived. Thankfully someone else must have called it in as well. OH MY GOD! We still don't know if anyone was hurt but I don't think so. It didn't look like the firemen found anyone in the rubble. Thankfully the fire didn't spread to any of the larger structures closer to our's or our neighbours' homes. The firemen really responded quickly and had the inferno out within a minute of arriving. I swear!

After the commotion died down, I went back to finishing my Christmas cards. You can see all of them on my SCS gallery here tagged CCC09 - January.

Ta Ta for now. I promise to be more creative with the February Christmas cards. I picked up some nice blue paper at Michael's paper clearance this week. Here is one of the January Criss Cross Cards that you can see in my gallery. I'm not posting all of them here as it is getting rather late - well, for me. 5:00am comes early!

CPS 99 - Wrought Iron Celtic Knot

So while my dearly beloved is away, I decided to take on the CPS #99 challenge over at

The three tiles on the side are stamped inkadinkado celtic knots, heat embossed with several layers of UTEE. The large celtic knot is a Maya Road chipboard piece which has been inked with Stazon Black pigment ink and then given a very light layer of black embossing powder which was then heated as well. It doesn't come across in the photo but in real life it gives the chipboard a look and feel of wrought-iron. LOVE IT! And the big co-inky-dink? The large chipboard pattern actually matches the quarters that make up the knot tiles. Sweet Serendipity!

The Love sentiment is a pewter embellishment. I think from the Dollar Store.

That pink tapestry paper? A freebie from a magazine I picked up last year. It is beautiful and I have been hording it for a special use - it was only a 5x7 sample of michael miller textured fabric paper (see or It feels like heavily starched brocaded organza, if that makes sense. The remaining 5 x 1.75 inch piece of paper will likely get used on another special card.

Anywhoooo, the celtic knot tiles sit on top of a lilac organza ribbon. Card base is a simple black CTMH card stock.

My Doug will get this card when he returns from Vancouver.

So what do you think? I'm thinking I'm paying a visit to Michael's tomorrow for some more black embossing powder. I have a bunch more celtic knots just waiting to be transformed!

Embellish it

So while my dearly beloved is heading to Vancouver - short notice demand from work - I'm sitting on the couch, one cat in lap, other cat MIA although he did show up when fresh food was laid out for them! Surfing the "inter-webs" as my LOL cats would say when I discovered an AWESOME site.

Just head on over and pay them a visit. Inspiration and SHOPPING all in one....oh dear, what is a compulsive crafter to do?

And...update on the VLSFL4 card - it is tucked into Doug's suitcase on it's way to Vancouver with him.

Red Riding Hood Anya

Or....when hobbies happily collide! On The Greeting Farm (aka pink poison) they had a challenge this week. Fashion show Anya. Well, my take on this was for Red Riding Hood Anya. Something just said to me "red VELVET riding hood Anya". So I raided my fabric stash for some very red velvet I had lying around from some long ago christmas project and ta-da. Anya has a red velvet riding hood.

The layout is courtesy of a challenge over at PaperCraftPlanet. I took some liberties with the placement of the sentiment but I think it worked out okay.

Now I'm wondering what else I can use the red velvet on - valentine's day is coming after all and I have a very cool die cut for my cuttlebug - a corset for which the red velvet would so to find that die cut!

Oh yeah, notice the hair? My attempt to add highlights I think went a little off. Her hair looks like mine. Brown with grey streaks.

For Maliah

The day arrived. This is the Backyardigans circus cake I made for Maliah's birthday, as well as her card. The card was CASEd from another one on SCS. The cake is inspired by the packaging the toys came in. One 14 inch round banana cake, 2 8 inch round banana cakes for the base of the tent. 1 8 inch white cake and 1 bowl white cake for the tent roof. And a heck of a lot of frosting!

Graham wafer crumbs simulate the sawdust in the circus ring, which is trimmed around with strawberry and yogurt fruit rollups. The tent bunting is strawberry fruit rollup.

I am wondering how to top this cake NEXT year!

Well here it is....card #4 for the VSLFL4 challenge over at SplitCoastStampers.

The paper is all CTMH It's a Guy thing. The stamped heart is from CTMH HeartThrob.

only question is when does Doug get this card? Valentine's day, birthday or just because?....Most likely just because - he did after all sign his letter of offer for his CS-04 yesterday. Technically, he can boss me around at work now as he is the senior technical architect for at least one of the projects for which I am the DBA.

Lily the Fairy & VSLFL3

Well, cake making day continues. While layer #3 was baking I took the opportunity to finish this card.

Lily the Fairy is for the Pink Cat Studio's Lily the fairy challenge over at PaperCraftPlanet. Isn't she cute? We had to print the pdf file of Lily and colour her how we saw fit. Well, I decided she needed some sparkle. Okay a LOT of sparkle. Except for her face, arms and legs, Lily is coloured with Stickles.

The layout is courtesy of the Verve Stamps VSLFL3 sketch challenge for their Looking for love Release Week Challenges over at SplitCoastStampers.

Now to see if I can get the VSLFL4 sketch challenge done. I'm still deciding if I need to bake a 4th and 5th layer to the cake (in chocolate in defiance of cake orders!) or if layers 2 and 3 will be cut in half and stacked to make the 4th and 5th layers. hmmmmmmmm....decisions decisions.

cake making day

so today I am at home making a massive birthday cake for the 2 year old daughter of friends of ours. While waiting for the 2nd cake to bake (it's going to be multi-layer), I've been surfing the blogs I follow and found this wonderful blog candy!

I'm hoping to get to do some card-making today.....but I have a long day of baking cake layers. The biggest is already done -- a 14 inch round monster. The 2nd is in the oven and the 3rd is waiting to go in. I just pray that the 1st layer is completely cooked through. Otherwise, I'll be redoing the cake and it WON'T be banana as requested. I had to wait a week to get the bananas ripe enough and since this baby has to be ready for tomorrow.....we shall see later when the cake has cooled.

Still, it beats being in the office working. Oh wait a minute, I DID work this morning from home via my laptop. sigh......the joys of being a DBA on-call.

Happy Birthday Newton!

The youngest of our two cats - Newton - will be one year old on January 8 2009. I am a crazy cat lady so yes, he has a nice birthday present, will get a special birthday meal and of course, his own birthday card. I used the CPS sketch challend #98 for the layout (seen here

Anyone who knows our unique little Newton would know that the image I used here (from Inkadinkado's Cattitude) is SOOO Newton. His eyes are closely set so he has a perpetually almost cross-eyed look about him. We have several nick-names for him. Sweetums because his fur is always tousled making him look like Sweetums from the muppets. Noodle because he's not really living up to the Newton moniker. Cheezburger (if you've ever seen the LOL cats...that's our Newton on so many levels).

But most of all, he is adored and loved - even when he wakes me up at 2:00am because he wants to cuddle by lying across my neck with his belly and legs in the air for belly-scratches, purring like an outboard motor. Dearly beloved just sleeps through it unless Newton starts to lick his lips!

Happy Birthday little NewNew! From Meow-Meow, Paw-Paw and Packet (aka big brother PooPoo).

2S4U - Bonus sketch AND Verve Stamps Lookin For Love Colour Challenge

Phew, was that a long title or what? Guess that's what I get for combining two challenges in one. First, the bonus card sketch from 2 Sketches 4 You at

and second, the colour challenge from Verve Stamps Lookin for Love Release challenge. The colour challenge was to use Riding Hood Red, Blush Blossom and Kraft. I substituted CTMH Cranberry and Taffy respectively, while keeping the Kraft as my card base and the tag (from the 2S4U card sketch).

I just love the Happy Everything sentiment. It says it all. I think this card will go to a friend who celebrates her birthday on January 16th.

Crafting Companion - Part Two

Tonight's companion - Packet. He was rather insistent on lying down on the supplies I had just taken out to make a card. The prone picture was taken first. In the sitting up photo - and slightly annoyed about being made to move, you can see the card and tag I had taken out. Sadly, I don't think I will get to the card. Maybe tomorrow. Depends on whether or not either of the two kitties comes to the craft room again.

My Card Making Companions

Well, one of them at least. Newton has two favourite sleeping spots in my craft room - when he is allowed in that is. This is him doing what cats do best - sleeping. He seems to like to curl up near my feet - where he runs the risk of getting smucked in the face by the office chair wheels.

Packet stayed downstairs sleeping on the couch while my dearly beloved played video games - until he heard me moving about to photograph tonight's cards. Now he is here in the craft room, sitting behind my laptop, sticking his pointy beak into the container with the new cards. I think he wants my attention. Time to "Packet" in for the night...tee hee.

2 Sketches 4 you - Kazan's Sketch 17

So this is my attempt at this sketch challenge posted on 2 Sketches For you at

I picked up some super funky, totally psychedelic flowery paper this weekend and thought it might look cool for a card made with this sketch. Well.....this is what I came up with. Electic Blue Funkalicious Flowers. Papers and punch letters are from an ATD Wildflowers Paper Stack. Chipboard flowers are K&Company.

Loved the 2nd sketch on the site today as well but, it's getting close to packing it in time so maybe I can get to it tomorrow night!

My Dad's Birthday card

So Dad's birthday is on January 7. Again this year, he is at sea through Christmas and his birthday. I did get to speak to him on Christmas day, VERY briefly. Satellite phones in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean aren't very reliable so our conversation lasted all of 1 minute and 31 seconds. The card uses SCS challenge #200. Perfect for those three letter words! I used Cosmo Cricket chipboard letters that were a christmas present from Chrissy and Kendrick - crafty presents rock!

Love You - OCC Sketch Challenge

This is my SECOND card for today using the same paper. How cool is that? Anywhoooo.....loved the sketch over at OCC and just had to participate with this card. My dearly beloved will get this card either in his lunch this week or, if I can resist, I'll keep it for him for when he heads to Vancouver in a couple of weeks. I suspect he will get it in his lunch tomorrow! Patience is NOT one of my virtues.

Fiskars border punch for the border details. Cosmo Cricket chipboard heart. CTMH Hearthrob stamp set. Basic Grey fibres. CTMH glitter on the flourishes. Paper....I honestly don't know. It's from my stash!

Happy New Year!

This is my card for my dearly beloved for the New Year - using the sketch challenge #209 over at SCS.

AND.....I'm very excited about a BARGAIN at walmart -- I picked up three 12x12 paper pads that were normally $19.96 each for a measly $4.95 a pop.....AWESOME!
This card is from Sketch challenge 209 over at SCS. For my dearly beloved. Loved the way these scraps of paper came together for this card.
