Happy Birthday to my nephew

My sister's son has a birthday on October 18th, he will be nine years old. This is the card I made for him using one of the "My Guy Ian" stamps from The Greeting Farm .



This was my first time colouring up one of these cuties and I am quite pleased with how it came out. My nephew is a blond so you will notice that I tend to colour my Ian stamps as blonds. I only wish that TGF would put out an Ian with glasses as my nephew, like me, is optically challenged.

I used this week's Mojo Monday sketch 107 for the layout and my new Basic Grey Cupcake papers. I think they worked well for a boy card.

For my sister's youngest

So, not only does my sister have her birthday in October - her three kids all have their birthdays in October as well. First up, is my niece, Hayley. She recently started ballet classes so I had to get this Anya stamp so I could make her a ballerina card. Apparently, she loved her fairy card from earlier this year so.....another Anya it is....




Again, I used my new Basic Grey Bittersweet paper for this card as it had to be pink pink pink for the new ballerina.

I used the SASSept2 sketch from Stamps and Smiles for the layout. They are doing a Fall/Winter Release this week and this is for one of the challenges. The new winter stamps featuring Cuppy the Cupcake are super-cute. Be sure to check out the previews over at their blog !

For my sister

Today, October 7th , is my sister's birthday - she is the younger one.

This is the card she received today (CanadaPost surprised me by getting it there in time!).




I bought the stamp months ago at Heather's Stamping Haven - it is an image from The Stamp Barn. I knew when I got it that it would wind up on a card for my sister and probably on some friendship cards. This is the first time it has actually seen ink.

I coloured the image with my Prismacolors and used this week's sketch from Friday Sketchers .

And, in case you are wondering - YES I have been crafting up a storm but, time being what it is, I haven't had a chance to post pics of anything yet. We had the big Christmas card making day at my house on Saturday (on World Card Making Day) and I do have pics of us having fun and of all the cards I made AND the adorable box.

And, well, I can't forget the big release at PaperWorksCo on Friday night. You KNOW I have some projects for that -- I just can't show them to you yet....tee hee hee. You will just have to tune in to the release party on Friday night to see them!

So....I should go since I am supposed to be getting up in four hours. This is my second night of insomnia and I really should try to catch a few zzzzs since I didn't sleep last night and only had a 45 minute nap today. This IS NOT a scheduled post...I am actually sitting in the living room writing.....even the cats are asleep!

Gears of War

I know.....I know......Right now you are saying "What in the world kind of title is THAT for a post on a CARDMAKING blog?". Before you navigate away, let me explain. It is the name of the FONT that I used on this card.


You see, it is for the fifteen year old son of one of my dearly beloved's long-time buddies. They went to college together and STILL play D&D regularly (Dungeons and Dragons for those not in the know). Well, nerd generation 2.0 actually plays with them as well and had his fifteenth birthday a couple of weeks ago. Friday night was the first time they had gotten together for a D&D night in a while (due to theatre commitments on the part of my dearly beloved and the DM (dungeon master) who have been friends since GRADE school) so I finally sat down to make the birthday card. Nerd generation 1.0 AND 2.0 actually play video games together as well - one of them being Gears of War.

So, when dearly beloved saw the Gears of War font on fontsy.com a while back, he suggested I use it on the nerd generation 2.0 birthday card -- with some camo and metal.

So this is what I came up with. Now, forgive my feeble attempt at creating a "gear" - I had a "senior" moment and spent over an hour looking for my cuttlebug C plate, tearing apart my craft room in the process. I apparently dropped it AFTER I cut out the copper gear and BEFORE I cut out the dark green gear (which I did by hand using a hole punch since I couldn't find the plate!!!). I did eventually find it...But I am going to go buy a second C plate just in case I do that again.

I didn't photograph the inside of the card but it says "Hope it is a blast" with the GOW skull in one of the logo gears in dripping red. I'm hoping nerd 2.0 likes it and "gets" it without too much explanation.

Happy World Card Making Day

So how are YOU celebrating World Card Making Day? I'm going to be gathered around a table or two in my front room making christmas cards with some friends - that is why I am scheduling this post as I am busy getting ready for the event - making food, tidying up, that sort of thing.

Today's card is one I FINALLY got around to making yesterday - it goes with one of the boxes of cards I made earlier this month and was delivered to the birthday girl - somewhat belatedly, by dearly beloved yesterday.




I used the Scrapsketch Card Sketch #3 for the layout and omitted the sentiment on the front as I thought it was busy enough without tacking something else on there.

I'm feeling Jolly - By Golly!

Hi folks, it's a new month and you know what that means! Time for a new PaperCard Kit from PaperworksCo.



This month, the kit includes patterned papers from the Cosmo Cricket Jolly by Golly collection - as well as Prism, Core'Dinations and Bazzill card stock. And BLING!!!! Yippers....rhinestones from Basic Grey. And guess what - I used ALL of those on this card!



Of course, I DIDN'T go overboard and add any of the brads, rick rack or tulle that were included. I showed SOME restraint!

So, yes, I am patting myself on the back with this card. I LOVE monochromatic cards and how everything just looks so right when the card is finished. Cohesive, you know? That is why this challenge over at Our Creative Corner was perfect for me. I think Christmas cards lend themselves so well to monochromatic themes. I think I will be doing more of this type. I find it speeds up the card-making process.

And what about the sketch? You likey? It is from this week's sketch challenge over at the Sweet Stop. There is still time to play along (I think). I really like this layout and I will be keeping it handy to use again for a few more Christmas cards. A quick and easy make - especially since I have my paper measurements all written down so nicely on my sketch pad.
