Get Well - with Sewing!

Hi folks....so I said earlier this week that I might be back with another get well card. Well....here it is....

Again, going for a fairly Clean and Simple look using this week's sketch from 2 Sketches 4 You. I only stamped a simple sentiment (from My Sentiment's Exactly). I thought it needed a little something so I thought I would TRY framing it with some off-kilter stitching.....ummmm....yeah, off-kilter, that's it....I'm thinking I should have lightly drawn in WHERE I wanted my stitching to go as I went a little off track in a couple of spots. I really don't understand how it is that I can sew a quilt -- a darn big one...geometric and PIECED and not get my stitching to go the way I want on an itty bitty card.

I used my EK Success Scalloped scallop border punch to create the decorative edges on the papers (from my brown scrap box) so I will be entering this card for this week's Practical Scrappers challenge to use punches.

Anyways, hope you are all having a lovely week.
Oh well....I'll try NOT to fret about my less than perfect stitched frame.

CASEing Sparkle

Hi Everybody,

I didn't think I would be back so soon with another card but I was reminded today while reading one of my favourite blogs, Sparkle Creations, that the "CASEing Critters" challenge was ending tonight over at The Greeting Farm. Since I needed a Get Well card, it was the perfect chance to ink up one of my new Critter Crew stamps!


Since I follow/stalk Sparkle's blog daily, I thought I would try my hand at CASEing her card for this Critter Crew Challenge. If I am not mistaken, the Critter Crew team member who gets the most CASEs of her card wins a little something from TGF. So, I hope Sparkle comes out on top!

I used one of my new Get Well Critter Crew images and sentiments on my version of Sparkle's card. I coloured it with PrismaColor Pencils and mounted it on a Spellbinders die (Labels Three maybe?). And, of course, in honour of Sparkle, I had to use Basic Grey papers - Bittersweet to be exact.

Now, I did not do any stitching on my card as Sparkle did with hers. Instead, I distressed the edges of my papers with Memento Rich Cocoa. I know....I quilt.... so why don't I sew on my cards? One day I will show you.....it isn't pretty.

This card will not be hoarded like so many of my recent cards. It is actually going in the post tomorrow to my Mom's younger sister who is now recovering from a second surgery for recently discovered stage three breast cancer. My Mom has been visiting and caring for her while she recuperates from her surgery and prepares to commence both radiation and chemo therapy.

I wish my dear Aunt only the best as this is the first instance of breast cancer in our family. I hope this little card brings a smile to her face when she receives it.

On a side note, I believe someone who enters this contest is eligible to be a Guest DT for the Critter Crew for the next couple of  months. I don't expect to have the winning entry - all of the cards in the gallery are pretty awesome. And, to be truthful, I really don't have the time to make such a commitment. I still have baby quilts looking at my guiltily -- or is that quiltily from the table in my craft room.

I may actually be back again soon....I need to make another get well card for another "almost" family member...but of the masculine persuasion. That might be hard.

Happy Monday Everybody!

I promise, this is the last of my Mother's Day cards for this year. This is the one I made for Jenn, since this was her first Mother's Day.

A return to my favourite style of card - pretty papers with a simple sentiment.

The papers are more of my Basic Grey Euphoria papers and the sentiment is Verve (mounted on Spellbinders Nestabilities Petite Oval die cuts).

The layout is from this week's Stamptacular Sunday Challenge.

And since this week's challenge at Raise the Bar was for Mom I think I will be entering this - my last Mother's day card of the year which was made for a very recent, first time Mom.


Hope you all have a lovely week! Not sure how much creating there will be for me this week as I don't think I have many May occasions left for which I need cards.

Paper Sundaes Mother's Day Card

Hi folks,

today I have my second to last Mother's day card to show you. This one was for my dearly beloved's sister.

I used this week's sketch from Paper Sundaes for the layout.

The designer papers are Basic Grey Euphoria (again) and the card stock is CTMH Sweet Leaf and Vineyard Berry. The stamped flower is CTMH (coloured with just three Copic Markers) and the sentiment is Verve.

I used Spellbinders Nestabilities Labels Eight and Ten for the image and sentiment panels.

I raided my stash of half-back pearls for a few little embellishments.

Since this week's challenge over at CCEE Stampers is to create a Mother's Day card, I'll be entering this card into that challenge as well.

I know my Mom won't see this but I just had to share this old photo I put into my profile pic on Facebook this morning .....

How's this for an oldie? My Mom and me. I believe I am four months old in this photo which means my Mom is only NINETEEN! Yes, by the time my Mom was the age I am now, I had already finished university and was working here in Ottawa. Wow -- I can't imagine having a 22 year old daughter at my age! Two young cats is MORE than enough!

Welcome Baby featuring Gordie the Giraffe

Hi folks,

today I have a card for a new baby - dearly beloved's cousin had a baby boy this week so I made this card to go with the little something I picked up today for baby.

The image is Gordie the Giraffe from the Safari Friends collection by PaperWorksCo. He is coloured with PrismaColor Pencils and mounted on Spellbinders Nestabilities Circle die cuts. I have personally always felt that the characters in the Safari Friends (Gordie, Lucas, Harriet and their new friend Zoie) were perfect for baby cards.



The papers and flocked brads are from the March PaperCard kit from PaperWorksCo. The March kit is no longer available but you can still get the Animal Stackers Collection from My Mind's Eye here at PaperWorksCo.


The layout for this card is from this week's Sketch for You To Try.

As it happens, this week's challenge over at Quixotic Paperie was to create something for baby. So, I'll be entering this card for that challenge!
