Trick or Treat with Sprat

So I am apparently in a Hallowe'en card making mood this weekend. I blame it on the fact that I had a request for an image share so I had stamped up a bunch of Doodlefactory Creatures. Some of them were not perfectly stamped for sharing (or I stamped a few extra) so rather than toss them I made a few quick cards with them.

Here's another card with Sprat (from StarvingArtistamps Doodlefactory Creatures II):

Sprat is coloured with Copic Markers (YR00, YR02, YR04, R29, G14, Y13, YG17 and YG11).

The papers are (once again) last year's Recollections Hallowe'en collection. The sketch is this month's sketch from Crafter's Companion.

I must say, I really have enjoyed making these little 4.25 inch square cards. They all came together really quickly and the colouring was easy to do because with the Doodlefactory Creatures - any colour works!

Boo! ... although I really think he should be saying "plllllleeeeh" (okay that's me trying to translate the sound of a raspberry...and doing a bad job of it I think).

I  used this week's sketch from the Sketch and Stash Challenge blog for the layout and used last year's Hallowe'en papers from Recollection (again).

Skoober is from the StarvingArtistamps Doodlefactory Creatures I collection and is coloured with Copics (G14, G12, Y13, YR04, V15).

The sentiment is from the (now retired) CTMH October Word Puzzle and I cut out the sentiment panels with my Spellbinders Petite Circles.

Life is Good - PWCO Sunday Sketch #49

Hi Everybody,

I hope that everyone who has a holiday weekend this first weekend of September is having a great one so far! Mine started out great (on Friday) when I got my order from PaperWorksCo of all the new Echo Park Papers that Peggy now stocks. Have you seen these yummies for yourself? You really NEED to (enabler alert - at the time I wrote this post the Echo Park Papers were showing at 40% off in the store...you might want to snag some ... and tell Peggy I sent you!). Gorgeous colours, gorgeous patterns and DOUBLE-SIDED!

You see I was REALLY HOPING they would show up before the weekend because I had been asked to be a guest contributor for this week's Sunday Sketch (after submitting a card for Sunday Sketch #47) and really REALLY wanted to use these papers after I saw the sketch with which I would be working. You can find it over at the PaperWorksCo blog today (and you can see it in my sidebar as well).

Okay, enough chit-chat I suppose....here's my card featuring.....

Yes....my long-time favourite "Harriet the Hippo". I figured that if I used Harriet I would be more likely to stick with the original layout of the sketch (if you are a regular reader you know I quite often move things around or flip the sketches with which I work).

I DID substitute a Spellbinders Peony die cut for the oval shape but I think I did pretty good otherwise for sticking with the original sketch. Don't you think? I DID emboss it but I thought it needed a little something else. I hate that the shapeabilities only do 1/4 inch increments don't you? So, I grabbed my white gel pen and dotted just inside the inner edge of the die to add a little more interest to the Bazzill cardstock I used.

I even kept the horizontal strip where it was supposed to be -- more or less. You might notice that this Spellbinders Eyelet Borderabilities die cut is a pretty good match for the paper I chose. No coincidence, that. I selected the paper first (Echo Park, Life is Good, Simple Stripes (the reverse side) and then went looking through my rather vast collection of Spellbinders for a border I liked. I turned out to be this one! I figured the strip needed a little something so I also pulled out one of my Cuttlebug dies and added the cream coloured lattice (the other half of the die cut - the swirly bit - is on the inside of the card).

I stamped Harriet three times - once on the cream coloured image panel and twice more for layering the image. I coloured her with my Copic Markers (C1, C3, R85 and R29) and then cut out the full image and adhered it to the image panel. Then I cut out just her head and popped it up with foam dimensionals. The (partial) sentiment comes from the Safari friends Sentiment set.

So there you have it - my take on this week's Sunday Sketch at PaperWorksCo. Be sure to play along this week - you might find yourself as the guest designer two weeks from now if you do!

Goonter wants his candy

Okay so I think this is REALLY post #666 -- so I have another card featuring a horned creature from StarvingArtistamps Doodlefactory Creatures II. This time it is Goonter and apparently, he REALLY wants some candy (sentiment is from an older StarvingArtistamps Hallowe'en set).

Goonter is coloured with Copics (Y13, Y15, Y17, YR04, YR00 and V15). The papers are more of the Recollections Hallowe'en papers that I used in the previous post (you will probably see lots of these on my Hallowe'en cards this year as I try to use them up).

I used my EK Success Bat border punch for the vertical strip on the side and the layout is this week's sketch from Card Patterns.

- I'm not sure how well you can see it in this photo but I added some sparkle to Sprat's horns and tail with a golden sparkly gel pen (I really should use these more) so this card qualifies for this week's challenge over at Oh, Alice! (to get shimmery, sparkly and fabulous with your creation). Since I plan to give this card to one of my nieces for Hallowe'en, I thought Sprat should have some girlie glimmer.

our happy home anniversary

Hi folks,

well, today is the ninth anniversary of my dearly beloved and I moving into our current house - the first home we purchased together. So, I had to mark the occasion with a card for him like I do every year. For this one, I DID use the second "Hideaway House" image from The Stamp Barn that I coloured the other day - even though he HAS seen the image.

I used this week's Sunday Sketch from PaperWorksCo for the layout but made a horizontal card instead of a vertical card (it measures 5 x 6.5 inches). If you haven't played along yet, there is still time! You could be the next guest designer - just like me! I will also have another PWCO Sunday Sketch card for you this coming Sunday as I was selected from last week's participants to do a feature card using the sketch. Isn't that neat?



Before I forget, the sentiment on the front was composed using the CTMH Solos "O" and "Y".  And the handwritten inscription inside finishes the sentiment ... "make our house a home". Awwwwwww...yeah I know. Now you don't need any sugar for your coffee or tea, right?
