Magical Pegasys

So this is my card for the Magical Unicorn challenge over at The Greeting Farm (see http://splendidstamping.blogspot.com/2009/01/magical-unicorn-challenge.html).

Since I drive to work every day in a car that has a license plate that reads "PEGASYS" I felt I had to make mine a winged unicorn. Liberal interpretation of the mythical Pegasus I know but heh, I HAD to do it! The little guy's wings are actually butterfly wings stamped onto vellum. How cute is that (butterfly stamp from the CTMH Simple Beauty set). The photo below is to show the layering details. One wing is mounted behind the uni, the other is on his body. Vellum tape did the job! The butterfly, flowers and Pegasys are mounted on foam dots.


The Magical sentiment (from CTMH Magical Season stamp set) is stamped on a nestabilities die cut. A little ribbon tops it off. I think a simple but pretty card. The paper is a cloud/sky print I got at Michael's ages ago.

Too much excitement

To say this was an exciting weekend - well, doesn't begin to cover it.

Thursday - Doug returned from Vancouver.....Purdy's Chocolate Hedgehogs in hand. Yummy! AND....my January order from CTMH arrived. YAYYYY!

Friday - took the day off from work. Bigger YAYYYYYY! EXTRA LONG WEEKEND!

Saturday - cuttlebugging with my neighbour Dominique. I cut out a bunch of stuff that will show up soon on some Valentine cards I will post. I enjoyed myself so much and completely lost track of time.

Sunday - finished my January CCC09 cards. That's 10 christmas cards made for the month of January for Christmas 2009. AND.......while I was making the cards I was apparently emulating Nero. One of the small sheds - I call it the Chicken Coop - on the farm behind our house went up in flames. I discovered this when I popped out of the craft room to toss my sweatshirt into the bedroom and wondered where the weird red glow was coming from. EEEP....I went running downstairs yelling "call 911 call 911. The shed is on fire on the farm". Well no sooner did Doug hang up the phone when the fire trucks arrived. Thankfully someone else must have called it in as well. OH MY GOD! We still don't know if anyone was hurt but I don't think so. It didn't look like the firemen found anyone in the rubble. Thankfully the fire didn't spread to any of the larger structures closer to our's or our neighbours' homes. The firemen really responded quickly and had the inferno out within a minute of arriving. I swear!

CPS 99 - Wrought Iron Celtic Knot

So while my dearly beloved is away, I decided to take on the CPS #99 challenge over at http://cardpositioningsystems.blogspot.com/2009/01/cps-99-sponsored-by-drs-designs.html

The three tiles on the side are stamped inkadinkado celtic knots, heat embossed with several layers of UTEE. The large celtic knot is a Maya Road chipboard piece which has been inked with Stazon Black pigment ink and then given a very light layer of black embossing powder which was then heated as well. It doesn't come across in the photo but in real life it gives the chipboard a look and feel of wrought-iron. LOVE IT! And the big co-inky-dink? The large chipboard pattern actually matches the quarters that make up the knot tiles. Sweet Serendipity!

The Love sentiment is a pewter embellishment. I think from the Dollar Store.

That pink tapestry paper? A freebie from a magazine I picked up last year. It is beautiful and I have been hording it for a special use - it was only a 5x7 sample of michael miller textured fabric paper (see www.michaelmillerfabrics.com or www.michaelmillermemories.com). It feels like heavily starched brocaded organza, if that makes sense. The remaining 5 x 1.75 inch piece of paper will likely get used on another special card.

Anywhoooo, the celtic knot tiles sit on top of a lilac organza ribbon. Card base is a simple black CTMH card stock.

My Doug will get this card when he returns from Vancouver.

So what do you think? I'm thinking I'm paying a visit to Michael's tomorrow for some more black embossing powder. I have a bunch more celtic knots just waiting to be transformed!

Embellish it

So while my dearly beloved is heading to Vancouver - short notice demand from work - I'm sitting on the couch, one cat in lap, other cat MIA although he did show up when fresh food was laid out for them! Surfing the "inter-webs" as my LOL cats would say when I discovered an AWESOME site.

Red Riding Hood Anya

Or....when hobbies happily collide! On The Greeting Farm (aka pink poison) they had a challenge this week. Fashion show Anya. Well, my take on this was for Red Riding Hood Anya. Something just said to me "red VELVET riding hood Anya". So I raided my fabric stash for some very red velvet I had lying around from some long ago christmas project and ta-da. Anya has a red velvet riding hood.

The layout is courtesy of a challenge over at PaperCraftPlanet. I took some liberties with the placement of the sentiment but I think it worked out okay.

Now I'm wondering what else I can use the red velvet on - valentine's day is coming after all and I have a very cool die cut for my cuttlebug - a corset for which the red velvet would so
work......off to find that die cut!

Oh yeah, notice the hair? My attempt to add highlights I think went a little off. Her hair looks like mine. Brown with grey streaks.
