Viva La Verve January 2013 - Week 5

Hi folks,

well my goal to make three cards for each of the weekly Viva La Verve Challenges didn't quite get past the second sketch of the year. For the last three sketches, I only found time to make one card for each sketch. So far anyways - but who knows? Maybe I will miraculously find time tomorrow night! But I doubt it.

Anyways, this is my card for the Week 5 sketch

card details:

  • finished size: 4.25 x 5.5 inches, black card stock base, red card stock mat
  • patterned paper: Martha Stewart Valentine's mat stack I picked up last year (or maybe the year before that?)
  • stamps: Verve "Hearts on Fire". The central heart is actually a bigger heart from the set that I stamped twice onto the patterned paper and cut out. The first one to cover the smaller heart that is actually in the flourish and the second one is popped up with dimensional foam.
  • bling it on: there are 19 wee little pearls on this card. 18 of them on the ends of curlicues on the flourish and then one more that I coloured with my R39 Copic marker to do the "I" in Valentine's.

Viva La Verve January 2013 - Week 4

Hi folks!

Just thought I would pop in with a card I made for the Viva La Verve January Week 4 sketch challenge.

This is a sympathy card I made for my cousin and his wife who had to say goodbye after sixteen years to their little Shih Tzu, Nigie. I know they were both feeling quite devastated even though he had been in ill health for the last few years. Like my dearly beloved and I, the don't have kids so their fur babies mean the world to them. Little Nigie definitely had a blessed life with my cousin and his wife.

I deviated from the sketch just a little to make a square card instead of a rectangular card, but otherwise stayed fairly true to the sketch. I even did a ribbon and bow (deliberately distressed with ink....not sure how I feel about that though) - I used a handy dandy tool my sweetie made for me to tie up bows and it worked WONDERFULLY! I may have to post a picture ....

card details:

  • finished size: 5.5 x 5.5 inches, kraft card stock base
  • patterned papers: My Mind's Eye Reunion (love the look of that teal with the dark brown, cream and kraft)
  • stamps: Verve "Borderline", "Kind Words"
  • seam binding from my stash, distressed with Memento Rich Cocoa
  • Martha Stewart Punch around the page
  • Corner rounder punch

Use it Tuesday #48

Hi folks!

A couple of weeks ago, my entry into the Use it Tuesday Weekly Challenge was selected as the winner for the week and I was asked if I was interested in being a guest DT for an upcoming challenge! You betcha!!!

This week's challenge is to use Red, Orange or Yellow. I know a LOT of people have difficulty with with using one or two or maybe even all three of those colours. Personally, I don't mind them at all. My problem colour is purple. But if you pull out a nice paper pack that is already perfectly coordinated - it's easy peasy! Maybe that's why I have such a HUGE stash of paper pads ... and just keep buying more!

Anyways, on to my card:

I quite like how this card came out. Those warm colours in the middle of a cold, Canadian winter make me feel all happy. If you are a frequent visitor then you will recognize this as the Viva La Verve January Week 2 sketch - this is my feminine version for that sketch (remember my promise to do a masculine, feminine and holiday version of each sketch?)

My stash busting items on this card? Well, we won't talk about the paper. That would be silly. As I confessed above, I do have reams and reams of paper. This one from My Mind's Eye just happens to be a new one I picked up at Michael's. Here in Canada they now sell the little 6x6 pad for $6.99....and when you throw in a 40% off coupon. Well....let's just say THAT stash is about to start growing again.

My REAL stash busting items are those pretty little paper flowers. Most of the cards I post here on the blogarooni tend to not have flowers on them - makes it so difficult for mailing purposes you know? So I tend to forget about putting them onto my cards, even though I have a decent sized IKEA box of them stuffed full in my craft room. I remembered I had these darling yellow-y orange flowers in that box and dug them out. Voila! A pretty birthday card for one of the ladies in my weight loss group who will be celebrating her birthday later this week.

Now be sure to pop on by the Use It Tuesday Challenge blog to check out all the other fabulous creations this week and be sure to link up YOUR creation using red, orange or yellow - we could all use a little bit of warmth at this time of year don't you think?

MFT Wednesday Sketch - with Yumi!

Hi folks,

A little while back I ordered a couple of stamps from a new little stamp company on the block - Yumi and Fumi Handmade. Life being what it is, I haven't had a chance to play with the stamps until now.

I needed a birthday card for the young daughter of friends of ours and I thought that the Yumi portion of the image of Yumi & Fumi would be just right. I masked off the Fumi side and got to stamping and colouring.
